My focus on this character was mostly around early sketches and ideas, and then coming back around for the final Ewok design, working closely with George Brierly along the way to fully develop the final design which would sit her within a custom At-St. In those early sketches I was playing with that contrast of primitive materials and imperial technology, but the large skulls keeping it more on the ewok side, and taking inspiration from the old movies and ‘Battle Wagon’ toy. To capture the strong female Ewok I was looking at the 80s cartoon, their ‘Belts of honour’, but also back to original Star Wars inspirations.
For the final design it was about keeping it pretty simple and clearly Ewok, but with that unique Rebel angle.
When it came to costumes, the At-St style vehicle gave us a great canvas to build upon, and really have fun adapting strong Star Wars references to that shape.
